Police Station Advice

If the police arrest you, or if you have been asked to attend the police station for a voluntary interview, then it is crucial that you have a solicitor by your side.

There are many occasions where people have been interviewed by the police without waiting for a solicitor or asking for a solicitor, and have then found themselves charged with a variety of offences.

Having a solicitor with you will not suggest guilt or mean you have to wait longer at the police station before being dealt with.  It can make the difference between being charged with any offence and not.

We have solicitors on call 24/7 to offer advice and assistance and representation at the police station, and best of all this service is provided free of charge as legal aid covers all costs for police station attendance.

For emergency assistance our 24/7 freephone number is  0800 073 6000.  Otherwise, call us in office hours on 01384 811 811 or use our contact form below.

You need to know your rights at the police station.

You need to make sure the police are not holding anything back or keeping you in custody longer than necessary.  If you find yourself in such a position, we will be there to represent and advise you without delay.

Contacting our criminal defence team would be a good step in ensuring the best possible outcome in any police station attendance.

FAQs

What if I have already been interviewed by the police?

It may be the case that you have already been interviewed and you did not ask for a solicitor at that time, but you are now worried about what might happen.

You are still entitled to Legal Aid and we would be able to assist you throughout the course of the investigation and represent you should the police wish to conduct a further interview.

What if the police impose bail conditions?

Following interview in certain circumstances the police may have imposed bail conditions which may cause problems.  Our expert team will be happy to advise you concerning those bail conditions, and if appropriate make the necessary application for conditions to be deleted, varied or in some circumstances for bail to be cancelled.

Will representation at the police station cost me anything?

No representation at the police station is completely free of charge

Will having representation at the police station cause delay and mean I will be at the police station longer?
