Day 5 - Talking to someone who is grieving - Dying Matters Awareness Week

Friday 10th May 2024

When this delicate situation arises, everyone concerned especially those who were related or close to the person who has passed deals with their grief in different ways. Trying to find the correct words without being insensitive to the person who is grieving requires discretion, compassion and empathy.

Knowing what to say and when to say it is often a stumbling block for most people, but being motivated to take action to help or support someone in some way is often comforting. The leaflet Talking to someone who is grieving has been provided to us by Hospice UK and offers some guidance and advice on how you can demonstrate your support with understanding and without judgement.
