What Constitutes GBH?
GBH stands for grievous bodily harm and is when a person intends to cause very serious physical or psychological harm or wound someone. GBH is covered in section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The same act covers GBH without intent in section 20. Some examples that could be constituted as GBH include: broken bones, disfigurement, stab wounds, and serious psychological trauma. GBH under section 18 carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
