What is Classified as Armed Robbery?
Armed robbery isn’t a single specific offence in UK law. Robbery itself is a type of theft where someone uses violence or a threat of force to intimidate someone and steal their property. Armed robbery is when a weapon is used or they threaten to use a weapon in order to steal someone’s property. When possession of a weapon is involved, the offence is taken very seriously and can carry severe penalties, with the maximum penalty being life imprisonment.
